10 perfect gifts for photographers
The end of the year is a challenge for most people when it comes to choosing gifts.
As you may already know, I’m not a fan of buying things beyond what I actually need. When it comes to gifts, I neither know how to appreciate the random ones nor do I buy random stuff unless I’m certain the recipient will enjoy it.
Fortunately, when it comes to photography enthusiasts, the choice is usually quite simple. There’s a whole range of products that (almost) always make photographers happy.
Below is a subjective list of 10 ideal, budget-friendly gifts for photographers.
SD cards
As the saying goes, “having one means having none,” so having an extra SD card is always useful - if not in the bag, then in a drawer.
The choice should depend on the type of gear, but the safest option is a fast card with 256 GB or more.
SSD drive
It’s always useful, unless you’re buying it for someone who already has a dedicated NAS station.
But if your photographer is a hobbyist, then a good SSD with, say, 1 TB of storage will definitely be enough.
Film rolls
An extra roll of film for an analog photographer is like a handful of candies for a child. No matter what, it always brings joy. If you choose one of the classics (Kodak Portra, Kodacolor, Cinestill), the gift will surely hit the mark.
Just remember to check which format your photographer uses (35 or 120 mm).
Camera filters
UV protective filters, ND, polarizers, mist filters - there’s a whole range of filters available.
Here, it’s worth making sure which filter your photographer needs, and you definitely must know the diameter of their lenses.
Power banks
If you know your photographer likes to go on longer photo trips, a good power bank is almost always welcome.
It can be a pocket-sized option for emergency battery charging, or a full power station ensuring that during a road trip they never run out of juice for their camera, laptop, or drone.
cleaning kits
Cleaning cloths and lens pens tend to get dirty or lost. An extra cloth is always appreciated.
As for sensor cleaning, an alternative to a DIY kit is a voucher for professional cleaning at a local camera service.
Pouches
A small pouch for SD cards, cleaning tools, filters, small cables, etc. will make life easier not only for people who love order - but truly for everyone.
There are plenty of options on the market, photography-specific or not.
Rain covers
Not only does it protect a camera without weather sealing, but it can also encourage someone to go shoot on a rainy day.
A practical gift that can also be seen as a sign of care.
Photo book or exhibition ticket
Whether by one of the great photographers or a local artist, a dose of inspiration in the form of a photo book or exhibition ticket is always a great gift for someone who likes to look beyond Instagram.
