In search for good stories on a coast
Can someone turn off the winter?
I must admit I was pretty okay with winter, cold, darkness and so on, until some moment. This is the moment that I am a bit done with it and longing for sunny, long days, where the sun sets late and gives more space for photography I like the most - full of natural contrast, warm, bright light and enjoyable evenings.
This, what’s going on now - at least in The Netherlands - is just not nice. Last two, three weeks were moody and foggy, and as normally most of the street photographers love this kind of circumstances, I think at certain moment most of them were just done.
Even durning a polar night in the northern Norway last year I could see more colour and light than here.
But, as I said before, I’ve set myself a goal to fight my inner fair weather photographer, which means I go out whenever I can, no matter what the weather and light.
Just for the sake of practice in all kind of circumstances, and simply to try to make the best out of it.
Since the light was dull, I decided to search for 1. colours, to bring some life into these photographs, and 2. good stories to improve my storytelling.
Tip no 1 for weather like this: search for reds, oranges, yellows. Most often they’re the game changer, they pop out of the images and make it a bit more alive.
I have a handful of tips how to photograph in such a gloomy weather, worth checking while you’re waiting for the spring to come.
All pictures are made with Fujifilm X100V.
